Brand Values

Furtados is the harmonious blend of tradition and innovation in the realm of music. With roots dating back to its inception in the 19th century, Furtados has been a cornerstone of musical heritage, fostering a deep appreciation for classical melodies and timeless compositions.

The Problem

Time Constraints: Traditional music schools often have fixed
schedules, which can clash with students’ other commitments like work, family, or extracurricular activities.
Commute and Travel: Students may spend significant time commuting to and from the music school. This can be exhausting and reduce the time available for practice.
Limited Flexibility: In-person classes follow a rigid structure.
Students might struggle if they need to miss a class due to
unforeseen circumstances.
Group Dynamics: Some students thrive in group settings, while others prefer individual attention. In-person classes may not cater to everyone’s learning style.
Costs and Expenses: Tuition fees, travel expenses, and instrument maintenance costs can add up, making in-person music education financially burdensome.

The Idea

The idea is to create an app where music enthusiasts can take courses to learn new instruments or vocals, while also providing them with the opportunity to pause a course whenever they want, as it is observed behaviour that several people taking music classes have at some point given up their passion due to university or a job, in such cases it
becomes inconvenient for them to keep paying the fees even in circumstances such as university exams when they may be able to attend for two weeks in a month.
The app will also have eBooks to help the students learn at their own pace, whenever and however they want.

Target audience

Location: Urban and suburban areas with access to smartphones and internet connectivity.
Income Level: Middle to upper-middle-income households, as purchasing musical instruments and investing in music education often require financial stability.
Education Level: Varied, but likely skewed towards individuals with at least a high school education or higher.
Occupation: Diverse occupations, including students, professionals, educators, parents, and retirees, with a common interest in music and digital literacy.
Age Range:
Children and Teens (8-18): This age group may consist of students learning music as part of their school curriculum, as well as those interested in pursuing music as a hobby or extracurricular activity.

Young Adults (18-35): Individuals in this age range may be college students, young professionals, or early-career musicians looking to enhance their skills or
explore new instruments and genres.

Older Enthusiasts: Retirees and older people interested in and enthusiastic about learning or reviving a skill.

The Value

1. Flexibility: Emphasize the ability for users to pause lessons, allowing them to learn at their own pace and fit studying into their busy schedules.
2. Interactive Learning: Promote any interactive features such as quizzes, assignments, or feedback mechanisms that enhance the learning experience and keep users engaged.
3. Progress Tracking: Showcase features that allow users to track their progress through the courses, providing a sense of accomplishment and motivation to continue learning.
4. Community Engagement: Offer opportunities for users to connect with fellow learners, whether through discussion forums or peer-to-peer feedback.

what i learned

Understanding the needs and preferences of the target users is one of the most vital components in designing any app. In case of a music learning app like Furtados, going deep into musicians requirements whether they are beginners or pros was crucial for the app to effectively embody their learning goals.

Working on Furtados Music Learning App taught me about user-centered design principles. I also learnt that simplicity should be a priority in interface designs so that learners can easily go through lessons and use other features as the application has many uses. This involved creating visual hierarchy which makes sure that important elements are availed to users while keeping a clean and intuitive layout.
